Jeep Wagoneer Celebrates 50th Anniversary

The iconic woody wagon, the Jeep Wagoneer recently celebrated its very special 50th birthday. A trailblazer in the crossover and SUV market, the auto is to thank as the inspiration for many of the vehicles on the road today. It was sold from 1963 to 1991 and went through different name variations, such as Willys Jeep Station Wagon previously and finally the Jeep Grand Cherokee.

Credited as being the first luxury SUV, the Jeep Wagoneer influenced many of the new Jeep models. The SUV offered drivers a rugged and capable ride, albeit much less fuel-efficient than today's SUVs. In addition to the practical uses, it served as a status symbol and was often a second or third car for its owners.

We recently heard the news that Jeep is bringing back the Cherokee name and there has been talk that they will do the same for the Wagoneer. The Commander in the 2000s aimed to play a role similar to the Wagoneer, but was not as successful. Here at Krueger Auto & Truck Villa, we'd love to see the nameplate resurrected.< /p>

You might not be able to get behind the wheel of a new Wagoneer any time soon, but you can always keep an eye on our great selection of used cars and SUVs.  You never know, a classic Wagoneer might arrive at our Waverly, IA dealership. From all of us at Krueger Auto & Truck Villa, happy 50th to the ageless vehicle!
